3D rough (beta)
Clears the stock round an imported 3D model, level by level, leaving stock to leave on it.
Use it for: Roughing mould cavities and cores, 3D parts, reliefs from STL / STEP / IGES / OBJ models.
Tool: A flat, bull-nose or ball end mill.
Settings
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Stepdown | Distance between levels; flat areas of the model get a level of their own. | 2 mm |
| Radial engagement | Sideways bite, % of the tool diameter (adaptive clearing at every level). | 15 % |
| Stock to leave | Material left on the model all round, for finishing. | 0.5 mm |
| Rest roughing | Only the material the operations before left (they are replayed on the stock): a smaller tool after a larger one, or a smaller stepdown to take the steps down (step-up). | Off |
Every operation also has: Tool, Include in G-code, Own safe heights, Start depth, Coolant — see Heights. Hover the (i) next to a setting in the app for the same explanations.
Tips
- Every cutting move is checked against the model with the real tool shape.
- A typical mould: 3D rough with a large tool, then a rest roughing with a smaller one at a smaller stepdown.
- 3D finishing (parallel, waterline, steep & shallow) comes next.
