Fill engrave (laser)
Burns the inside of closed outlines with close parallel lines: filled text, logos, badges.
Use it for: Filled lettering and logos on wood, leather, acrylic, anodised aluminium.
Tool: A laser (GRBL with M4 or M3, or Marlin inline).
Settings
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Line interval | Distance between lines; about the beam width gives an even fill. | 0.1 mm |
| Power, feed | Power % for the lines; feed 0 = the tool's. | 30 %, tool feed |
| Angle, crosshatch | Direction of the lines; crosshatch adds a second set across. | 0°, off |
| Passes | Burn it this many times, for a deeper engraving. | 1 |
| Back and forth, overscan | Lines both ways (faster); the head runs on past each end at zero power so it burns at speed. | On, 2 mm |
Every operation also has: Tool, Include in G-code, Own safe heights, Start depth, Coolant — see Heights. Hover the (i) next to a setting in the app for the same explanations.
Tips
- Outlines inside others stay unburnt, so letters keep their holes.
- The material test in the laser's tool editor can fill its squares: pick the darkness you want and use it for fill engraving.
- Find the power and speed on a material test first; the power rides on each move as an S word.
